Categorical data refers to the different groups of data which are generalized in terms of different categories. This type of data is usually taken into account when there are more than one variables to consider.
This type of data are represented in tables or categorical data sheets in terms of variables say x and y . An example of categorical data is as follow :

Sol: From the given set of categorical data , we have
a ) For red pen color , as the pen color numbers are related with the columns , so we have to add all the numbers related to the red column .
Total of red : 0 + 0 + 4+ 1 = 5 (Answer)
b ) For red pen color , as the pencil color numbers are related with the rows , so we have to add all the numbers related to the green rows.
Total of red : 2+2+0+1 = 5 (Answer)
